Rei by Caeryx Rei by Caeryx
Hello, you lovely people.

This is Ayanami Rei from the NGE series (that's Neon Genesis Evangelion if for some reason, you aren't familiar).

Some of you who have followed me for a long while will also note that this is re-done from another picture I had drawn a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. I have always loved The OP. She's a great character.

What am I even saying? Of course she's a great character :iconwhywouldyoudothatplz:

I know what a lot of people who have me on watch are probably thinking. "Why re-do an older drawing that you have already done like 2 years ago when you could just start fresh and do an entirely different project?" Well, you see- I honestly think that the original is something that should never have been attempted...

Here it is ---------> [link] <----------- , in all of it's "glory".

Both of the drawings took me more or less the same amount of time, the only differences being obviously skill and now, the equipment that I have and how well I can use said equipment. But that doesn't explain the reason, does it? So, to be truthfully honest, these are the reasons why:

:bulletblue: I wanted to compare my skill growth from 2 & 1/2 years ago
:bulletblue: Due to the great lack of accuracy and artistical merit that could have been achieved in the original, I decided to actually do a good version, that people could enjoy a lot more
:bulletblue: I was very curious as to how quickly I could finish a drawing and still try to maintain high-accuracy/quality in my work
:bulletblue: I wished to try a new way of doing my drawings using the equipment I have now in a specific way to shorten the amount of time I spend on them

I am often very critical and openly opinionated regarding my own works, but I think I will condense my urge to splurge a 10,000 word essay exclaiming the individual nuances of my drawing with the follwing statement:

I am very pleased with this drawing.

That is all, much love.

GOD! Don't they just glow?
The eyes of course. If the version i have had an opinion, i'm pretty sure it would to come to jealously. Serious improvement.
But as you know, i'll never understand why you thought the original was an abomination, given that your skill and views then were much less evolved than they are now. All that really needs to be said on this whole subject is that your skill now is no joke, perhaps one could say near professional level even. Love it!

It's all done in seriousness of the expression to compare what I was to what I am, really.

Personal gain. I can say that two years ago I was so much worse than I am now, even after leaving my hobby massively neglected for large periods of time...

I guess even though I have a different calling in life, I can still keep getting better at this, even if it is few and far between.

Fantastic! Shame on me though for thinking that the hair over the hand she's using to put her hair over her ear was the space between her thumb and index finger. (cannot unsee)
